"Be confident in what you don't know"

Yesterday (June 24th), Jasmine and I went to another Women In Capital Markets event. This one was called "University Connections: A Day in the Life of Women in Capital Markets". This was much better than last time because everyone was an university student and the panelists were sharing their experience in regards to where we are now as students.

The panelists gave a lot of great advice and of course, I jotted all of the important points down. I like going to these events. I might not meet the right people that I need to get me going with my career but it is really nice to hear an experienced person's point of view. I feel like we're often very restricted in terms of opinions. The mindset of the people around you may be completely different than another group of people and this event helped me open my mind a little bit.

A few things stuck with me after the event:

1. Be confident in what you know but also be confident in what you DON'T know
2. Don't take a job because other people think it's a good job
3. Don't be so focused on the odds: the detours in life are the most rewarding experiences

One of the panelists graduated from Waterloo from the AFM program so I talked to her a bit. She was so down to earth and gave such genuine advice. It was reassuring to hear some of the things she said.

"You don't have to go through the traditional pathway. Yes, it's stable but if you wan't to be unique, original, and want to take advantage of the great things in life, do something different."

Here's what I wore. I am really loving the camis. It's reversable so this side is off-white and the other side is more of a beige colour.

After the event, we met up with Hubert and Roy and we went to Momofuku Noodle Bar. I was actually really disappointed in the food. I was so excited to go and had such high expectations for it because everyone was talking about it.. but it wasn't even that good :( It was expensive too. Don't go there for summerlicious people.

It was a lovely day and the event made me more certain about my decisions regarding my career path. Stay inspired and motivated, everyone!

Blue Mountain Weekend

This past weekend my family went to Blue Mountain Resorts. We go there annually because a friend of ours owns one of the resort rooms there and is always generous enough to let us go there for a weekend! There actually isn't a ton of stuff to do at the resort  (assuming you've already been there once for the summer time) but it is good to relax for a day or two.

Since we go there often, I've already been on the cart racing, the tight ropes, the zip line, etc. So this time my mom and I decided to go to Scandinave Spa! It's a 19+ activity so my sister couldn't come. It was really nice though! We didn't get a massage (so expensive) but we went into the outdoor baths! This is what you're supposed to do:

1. Heat: Go into a hot bath, a sauna, or steam room for 10-15 minutes
2. Cool Down: Take a cold shower for 10 seconds
3. Relax: Lie down on a hammock, sit on a beach chair near the fire place, etc.

It was so relaxing! The cold showers were a bit too... cold so I skipped that step but everything else was a blast! Isn't it lovely?

Later in the afternoon, we drove out to Wasaga Beach! We didn't stay for long but it was really nice to get a bit of a tan.

There was actually a lot of people there on a Sunday afternoon. But then again, it was really nice weather!

My beach essentials (plus my camera): sunglasses, phone, notebook, a good book

I believe I stayed at the building on the left.

On Monday, before we headed back home, we went to Scenic Caves! They have nature adventures which includes going on a 420 foot suspension bridge and going through trails, caves, and caverns that were carved million years ago by ice glaciers! It was so awesome because at each special destination, it would tell you what the specific area was used for by the natives!

Ugh... my asian eyes. But here's the bridge! We took a family picture and we asked a man that was on the bridge to take it for us. And it turns out that he was the one who designed the bridge! It was so awesome. I was just like "WOW. We're so proud of you for designing the bridge" (#awkwardpolly)

This is the "Ice Cave". It's about 4 degrees celcius in there which was so weird because where I was standing was at least 20 degrees. And the natives used to use it as a refrigerator!

LOL hi. On this trip, two different people asked if we were twins... We don't even look alike! And that means I either look like I'm 15 or my sister looks like she's 19.

This was one of the cave openings! It's called "Fat Man's Misery" because the opening is only 36 cm wide and there's a even smaller opening inside that's like 14 cm. But don't worry, even though I'm not in the greatest shape, I fit in!

Overall, this was a great trip! It was relaxing and adventurous at the same time. Y'all should go if you haven't been!

Hello! It was Father's Day this Sunday and so my family decided to go eat All You Can Eat Japanese food! We went to a restaurant near our house because we wanted to try something new. It was $10.99 per person which is pretty good. I forgot to take pictures of the food but it was really good. The fried scallop was absolutely delicious! Although it was a Japanese restaurant, the restaurant decor made it look more like an Italian restaurant or something along those lines.

I really liked the brick walls and the wall decor. I'm hoping that when I get my own place, I'll find a brick loft and decorate it like this restaurant or something. It'll feel so homely and cozy!

Yesterday (Monday), Jasmine and I attended a summer social + networking event for Women In Capital Markets. We joined this organization back in high school when they had the High School event but we never really attended any other events during the year. We're paying for a yearly membership so we thought we'd go to more events that they hold!

(photo stolen from Jasmine)

It was a nice event. I'm pretty sure we were the youngest there but I met some fourth years and some professionals in the industry. And because I never really attended any of their events before, I thought that business casual was enough... but no, it was more like business formal. I kinda felt underdressed but oh well.

This is what I wore! I love this camis because it's reversible! The other side is a darker blue. I also bought another one in white & beige. The necklace was on sale for $5.99 at Express which I thought was a pretty good deal.

Today, I met up with Victoria and Melissa at Starbucks. I haven't seen Victoria in like... a year so it was definitely really nice to see her! I miss my lovely brandy girls.

Well, that's it for today!

Would you like a cup of tea?

I decided to be classy. I met up with Patricia at noon and she brought me to Windsor Arms Hotel for Afternoon High Tea. It was basically my first time having high tea and I felt so classy and ... well, British. It was great, though! Everything was set up so nicely and the tea was great and so was the food (biscuits?).

Us being cute in front of the hotel.

I wore a cute floral dress with a meshed laced cardigan and I paired it with my new fake-birks that are just as great as real birks.

Such a cute little setup.
After that, we went to see The Fault in Our Stars... my second time in three days. I think I can watch that movie 10 times and cry every time and not get sick of it. I'm being a crazy fangirl now because all I can think about is the story and I think I memorized Augustus' speech about how he loves Hazel Grace and yeah.

some infinities are bigger than others

Hello! Yesterday was a lovely lovely day. I went downtown with duh boyfrand and watched The Fault in Our Stars! Oh my god,  I was so excited and oh my god, I died. The movie will never ever be as great as the book. And that makes total sense because there is no way you can portray a character's full personality on screen and there is no way to show a character's full inner emotions on screen either. But I am definitely satisfied with the movie and I will probably watch it more than 3 times.

The poster is pretty much perfect. In all honesty, when I first saw the trailer and the actors... I was like meh. But they both played the characters extremely well.

And here is me and Roy being weird and taking selfies before the movie. We basically arrived downtown an hour before the movie because I thought there would be a lot of people lining up (like that time with Catching Fire...) but I guess that's why they had show times 50 minutes apart. Thank goodness there weren't that many people and we got super good seats!

After the movie, we went to Salad King! A few of my friends, including Roy, have been there and told me that it was pretty good. Maybe I didn't have much of an appetite that day but I didn't think it was as good as people said it was so I was a bit disappointed. However, I really liked the environment and the restaurant decor!

After lunch, we shopped for a bit and then met up with Patricia! We got something small to eat and then we were off to SPOTLIGHT 2K14! It was my first time being in the audience and not on stage which was different. I miss being on stage and freaking out with people backstage. And I guess I just miss vybe in general. In my opinion, I thought that last year's show was better in terms of being more entertaining, fun, and more thought out. But nonetheless, it was a good show! I'm also glad I got to see some of my friends again.

And that was basically my day!
